Well today marks my 38th week - can you believe it? I sure can't! To celebrate this great milestone - I stayed in bed (not sleeping of course) until 10am - I watched a little TV before I got up. I then had an 11am dentist apt. No cavities - woo hoo! Then I treated myself to a much needed manicure! My hands are so sore that it hurts to hold things and move them!
After that - I decided to cook food to freeze - for easy suppers - so that I make life easy for David (aren't I a sweet wife!). I made 4 chicken pot pies, a pot of minestrone soup, Vodka pasta sauce (man did I want a shot of that!), and chocolate chip muffins...well those are more for me :-) I've been in the kitchen for about 4 hours this afternoon - and as I type this I'm about to pass out from exhaustion. Who knows - maybe me being in the kitchen was my "nesting" but I was just in the mood to cook / bake all day! Maybe all of that work will put me into labor on my own...but I highly doubt it!
We are both anxiously waiting Tuesday - I'm sure I won't be able to sleep Monday night - but we are so excited!

There is a light at the end of this long tunnel!
I had my doctor's apt today with Dr. Pang at 9:15. I haven't put on any weight in the past 4 weeks (YIPPEE) - but as I was getting examined, Dr. Pang realized I was having contractions. He decided to hook me up to the monitor there just to monitor the contractions. Come to find out they were 5-7 minutes apart, so he decided to send us off to L&D for more monitoring...
He did call and schedule me for an induction for 3/3/09! So regardless if I go into full labor or not - these babies will be out next week! HORRAY!
As we were in L&D I got checked again and I'm between 2-3 centemeters...STILL! He sent me down for an ultrasound - they needed this before I deliver anyway to make sure the babies are definitely head down and to check on their size. They are definitely head down (their heads are right next to each other) - and baby A (girl) weighs 6lbs 6oz and Baby B (boy) is 6lbs 7oz. They said it isn't 100% accurate, but close enough.
I knew today wasn't going to be the day - but Dr. Pang wanted us to be safe since it's twins...So - unless something exciting happens before next Tuesday - we'll be in L&D at 6:30 a.m. for the start of the induction.

Labor and Delivery...part 2
Well - since I'm posting so soon, you know the babies aren't here yet! But I did spend another 6 hours in Labor & Delivery yesterday. I was up all night with contractions and some were pretty intense. I figured I'd try to wait it out a bit and wait til the doctor's office opened in the morning. When I called - the nurse told me that I should just go to L&D so off we went...back to St. Vincent’s!
We got there - and once again I got hooked up to the monitors. The contraction monitor was hitting high numbers (126-132 for most of the big contractions) - some of the minor ones were about 65 on the contraction monitor. I laid there for about 2 hours and the doctor came in...Wouldn’t you know...it was my favorite doctor from Saturday morning. She came in and we both laughed at each other - and she said...wow I've probably seen you more in the past week than Dr. Pang has.
She checked me out and I was still 50% effaced and 2cm dilated...WHAT THE HECK! So...she was off to do a C-Section so she had me put my clothes on and walk around for an hour. She said sometimes walking will speed things up. David and I walked a mile (7 laps) around the atrium of the hospital. Then I got tired so we headed back to our room. As we were heading down the hall - I saw some woman giving birth (her door was cracked open) - what a site! Within about 10 minutes I heard the new baby crying. I wanted that to be me!!! (so did David)
Dr. Nabezedeh came back in and checked me again - no change! So - she said unfortunately there is nothing they can do until I hit about 4 cm. David asked if she could scrape my membranes - and she said she had already done that twice - so who knows - maybe something will happen this weekend. She gave me a hug and said she would consider it a pleasure and an honor delivering my twins - but today just wasn't the day. She then commented on my purse that my mom made - I told her if she delivered the babies - she would have a purse!!! hahahaha
The nurse told me after I got changed, that most people in my situation are crying their eyes out for being sent home - and they are nasty and rude. She kept thanking me over and over again for being so pleasant and they can't wait for me to come back for the real thing. Dr. Nabezedeh said the same thing - that I am so pleasant - not like most of the pregos they get in there. I guess I should take that as a compliment - I mean seriously - why would you want to piss off the doctors and nurses who are taking care of you?
So - off to the 99 we went for food (since I hadn't eaten since dinner the night before). Came home and crashed. I slept the entire night - with only getting up once - YIPPEE.
Other than that - no new progress - just still having "minor" contractions today - nothing too serious.
I'll keep you posted!

NST & Preclampsia Update
Well I had another NST (Non Stress Test) this morning in Worcester - both babies did great! It only took about 45 minutes to get the results they were looking for. The nurse brought my paperwork into the doctor and I could hear the doctor say...I recognize that name. She ended up coming into the room I was in and it was the nice doctor from Labor and Delivery from Saturday morning. She asked how I was doing and wanted to make sure my blood pressure was ok! I was amazed she remembered me. :-)
She then asked how far along I was and told her I would be 37 weeks tomorrow. She was amazed at how I was getting along and said that if I were 37 weeks this past Saturday she would have induced labor (just what I wanted to hear!) haha She then asked if I knew how big my babies were and I told her I hadn't had an ultrasound in a month, but the nurse had the results from my last u/s. She asked if she could look at them and proceeded to tell me that she was treating a woman with twins and her babies weren't growing as good as mine were. She said she was jealous and I should be very pleased! She and the nurse said I looked great and should be the new poster child for someone carrying twins! I thought that was pretty funny!
She then checked my blood pressure and it was pretty normal - so she told me to go home. I'm thinking if my blood pressure was high again she was going to admit me. So...off to home I went. I've been laying on the couch all day and having minor contractions. Nothing too serious - so I'm not too worried about it.
My doctors office just called with my lab results for the preeclampsia and my 24 hour urine collection. They said all came back normal and turns out I don't have it! YAHOO!!! My next apt. is Tuesday 2/24 - so until something else happens - that's the next time they'll see me.
Please say your prayers that something happens soon - I am finally to that uncomfortable point where I can't breathe, can't sleep, and feel huge! I'll keep you posted!

Doctor Update
Well I went back for my follow up appointment - I ended up lucking out because Dr. Pang was the on-call doctor at St. Vincent’s (he wasn't in Leominster today). They started off by testing my blood pressure - which was high again (so now I have to do a 24 hr urine sample) - basically every time I pee I have to collect it and bring it to the lab tomorrow - UGH! He is just being precautious just in case I am getting preeclampsia.
He then proceeded to listen to the hearts and as he was doing this, both babies were bouncing around in my belly. We were all laughing. He then did the "lookie loo". He said I have progressed since Saturday a.m. I am 50% effaced - which means that my cervix is 1/2 of what it was on Saturday and it is prepping for birth on its own. I will be 37 weeks this Thursday - and Dr. Pang thinks I am progressing fast enough that the babies will be here within the week! (he said 37.5 weeks) - so soon enough...we hope!
He said he doesn't want to induce labor yet - he wants to leave them in as long as possible - but doesn't he know we are anxious - and I am so uncomfortable?? I guess we need to follow doctors orders - he knows best!
I have another apt. on Wednesday for another Non-Stress Test (NST) - so we'll see how that goes! I'll keep you updated - as I'm sure you are all on the edge of your seats like we are!

Close...but no cigars yet!!!
Well David and I spent the night at St. Vincent’s hospital last night (Friday the 13th!). I started having contractions around 6pm and they were getting stronger as the night went on. I fell asleep, and woke up around 10pm and realized that I had to call the doctor. The doctor told us to drive to St. Vincent’s and go in for Labor & Delivery. We arrived shortly after 11pm and by 11:30 I was in bed and hooked up to contraction monitors and fetal heart monitors.
All looked great - including the intense contractions! The Midwife came into the room and checked to see if I was dilated and I was dilated 2cm. She came back 2 hours later (230 a.m.) and looked again and I was still at 2 - but the pain and contractions was getting more intense! They came back with pain meds and sleep meds - so I was knocked out until I had to pee.
Well I got checked again in the morning and was still at 2cm - so they decided to send me home, so now I'm on strict bed rest. As I am typing this I'm still having bad contractions - so this post is shorter than it was going to be! UGH! Come out babies!!!
Ok - since I'm feeling better I can write more...
In the morning, they came in to check the contraction monitor as well as the babies heart monitors. The babies monitor looked great - but my contractions started getting further and further apart (which isn't a good sign!). The doctor came in and explained that since I hadn't dialated more than 2cm that they were going to send me home and I have strict instructions to lay on my left side and rest. They want to see me again on Monday to see if anything has changed.
While I was in the hospital they kept doing blood pressure checks - the first time they checked it, they had me laying on my back (which is so hard for me to do since I have 2 babies in my belly) - my blood pressure was 148/113! They weren't happy with that - neither was I for that matter. After a little while they tested it again and it was still really high - so they decided to draw blood to check for Preeclampsia (sp?) - the blood test came back negative so they decided to roll me on my left side and check my blood pressure again...this time it was 126/69 - MUCH BETTER! So they let me try to get comfortable - hooked up an IV (which hurt like hell) and gave me 2 types of pain meds and sleep meds. One was a shot in my butt and the other they gave me through IV.
Within 10 minutes I was passed out until about 4:30 when I had to go to the bathroom. The contractions were so bad because my bladder was so full! I then passed back out and woke up around 6:30 due to a full bladder again! The nurse came in and said the doctor would be in shortly after 8am to check to see how things were progressing. I was then discharged at 9! Needless to say, David and I were bummed out - but I guess the twins aren't ready to join us yet.
When I got home - I wasn't feeling too good (that's typically what IV and Pain meds do to me) so I laid down. I slept for about 2.5 hours. I then woke up for about an hour - and then slept for another 2 hours. I then took sporadic cat naps throughout the afternoon - then David and I got dinner. We spent Valentines Day getting Papa Ginos' for dinner and watching August Rush - well I lasted about 1/2 hour - then by 9:00 I was in bed! I slept until 8:00 this morning - and today ... well I feel like a new person! I haven't really had any contractions today - so I think it was a false alarm!

Doctor Update
Well I just had my 35.5 week check up - and all looks good! I haven't gained any weight since last week (surprising!) - but I do have more water retention in my ankles. I don’t have cankles yet - but we'll see how long it will be before my calves and ankles combine! LOL
Dr. Pang did the "lookie loo" (as David likes to call it) today - and he said my cervix is pointed in the right direction and he thinks I will go within the next week or 2. Let's hope!!! He said for twins he wont induce labor until I hit the 38 week mark (which is 2 weeks away) so I could be a mom within the next two weeks! YIPPEE!!!
My next Doc apt. is next Wednesday - so unless anything miraculous happens from now until then...I'll keep you posted!

35 weeks
Well my 35 week mark was a tough one - but I managed to pull through. I'm feeling pretty good - minus some Braxton Hicks Contractions - but it was even tougher to get the news that Nana passed away. She will forever be my guardian angel and she and Grandma T. will be looking down over the twins and watching them grow. I'm so blessed and lucky to have had her in my life and I'll always and forever be her Princess of the East. We were so lucky to have her make 1 last trip for my baby shower - she was able to see everyone in the family (and some of her friends) who still live here in Quincy.
I have a doctors appointment on Monday - so we shall see how I am progressing and what the suggestions are for me attending the wake / funeral. I'm hoping he says I'm ok- I just can't get upset and cause stress on the babies. Yesterday was harder for me than today is - but I just have to remember that she is in a better place - and we are lucky to have had her in our lives for 88 years (almost 89!) As Nan always told me - she was no spring chicken!
My last day at work is next Friday - so until my next update...

Labor and Delivery...well not exactly!
Well I had my appointment today with Dr. Pang - and boy was it exciting! I started getting seen at 9:00 a.m. with my regular check up. He said all looks great - I put on 2 lbs in the past 2 weeks but other than that, all looks great! I then headed down the hall for my stress test.
As I sat waiting in the chair for my test, the nurse came in and was ready to begin putting the monitors on my belly. She asked where the baby was and I said well one is here and the other is here! She then said shocked...you are having twins? Now - she isn't my normal nurse - she helps w/ultrasounds and fetal monitoring - so why would she know? Anywho - she went to get Dr. Pang and said we can't do the monitoring here - we dont have a machine for twins. So - Dr. Pang asked if I could go to Worcester...
As I headed out to the car, I called David (he wasn't able to make my apt this a.m.) I said...well we have to go to Worcester...the excitement changed in his voice and said...ARE THE BABIES COMING? Not exactly! Not even 5 minutes went by and the doctors office called back and said they couldn't take us until 1pm today. So I headed off to work for a couple of hours.
David and I then headed off to St. Vincents in Worcester for our 1pm appointment. I sat in the chair with the monitors on me. For the first 30 minutes baby boy was cooperating and baby girl wasn't. Then - the second 30 minutes baby girl was cooperating and baby boy wasn't. They needed them both to cooperate - so I headed off to get an ultrasound.
Now - I'm laying on the table getting an ultrasound and guess what...BOTH BABIES ARE NOW SLEEPING! They wanted nothing to do with any of us at this point and wanted to be left alone. Due to the fact they were sleeping and not moving, the doctor wanted to admit me to Labor & Delivery so I could lay down and have the 3 monitors on my belly...so off to registration we went!
We registered for L&D (which was very weird!) and headed back down to the Woman and Infant's Center. I got changed into my Johnny and laid down on the bed. The nice nurse Angela hooked me up to the two monitors and contraction monitor. Also to a blood pressure machine...Both babies must have enjoyed me laying down becuse the two of them were going nuts! Angela kept complimenting on how great the babies were and how they were very active and that I had nothing to worry about...Thank god!
Dr. Mendall came in (I've never met him before - but he was very nice) and explained that where I'm just about 35 weeks, I could go at any point - but the longer we keep them in the better (which I'm glad David heard that!) He keeps saying they need to come out...which I agree, but I'd rather them be fully developed first! From the sounds of it, I may be having this test every week now just to check the movement, but he said all looked great! We were in L&D for an hour then got to go home! We made it home at 5:30 tonight!
Back home for another week - my next appointment is next Monday!
