Boston 2013

What started as an amazing journey, ended in tragedy! My neighbor Zee and I walked the Boston Marathon yesterday as a training walk for our Susan G. Komen 3-day. We started at 6:54 yesterday morning in Hopkinton and made our way to Boston. The crowds were amazing and it kept us going the entire time! We didn't know what was going on, but we were .5 from the finish line and they stopped the race. We later heard that there were 2 bombs that exploded at the finish line. Luckily for us - I had a foot cramp at mile 25 and I had to stop and sit down for 5 minutes - took my shoe off and fixed my sock. If I didn't need to do that, we would have been on Boylston Street nearing the finish line. Once they stopped the race, we stayed outside for about 30 minutes and we were freezing. Luckily we were right next to Deuxave (my brother's restaurant) - so we went inside for coffee. I was able to charge my cell phone, as the battery was dead. After getting warm, we had to walk another 2 miles to the train station so we could make it back to our cars. We may not have crossed the actual finish line today, but we finished strong doing a total of 28 miles today! We are thanking our lucky stars that we are ok!

Here are some photos

Here is the new statue in Hopkinton Center by the starting line of the Hoyt's! So amazing!!

Here is our official start time:

This boy is a junior at Lynn English HS - he raised 750 dollars and was walking the full 26.2 on stilts

Here's my annual "picture with Santa" - this year he had his full suit on because it was colder

Here's Zee with "stilt boy"

Here's the lead pack of Men - we were at Wellesley College when they came by

Here's the women's leader

Here's the pack of women

Here's the group of men

So amazing

Here's a picture of the Women's Elite water table:

Here comes the first pace car - so the women were right behind it

Here's another picture of the woman who was initially in the lead

This was awesome to see

There were crazy spectators all along the route, but these signs were my favorite:

Here is when we got out of the crowd and crossed Commonwealth to head to Deuxave - this is where the race was stopped! The staff at Deuxave was amazing - they brought out buckets of water and over 1,000 trash bags so the runners could try to stay warm!

Zee and I made it over to Deuxave and enjoyed a hot cup of coffee!

1 mile to go! I had an Ap on my phone that was tracking our walk - it was automatically updating facebook every 5 miles, so friends and family were freaking out because we had hit the 25 mile mark 15 minutes before the explosions!

Here we are in the middle of the crowd stopped right before going under the Mass Ave Bridge

Here we can see the Citgo Sign...we knew we didn't have far to go!
